Love Water Memory - Book Review

A woman is discovered standing in water up to her knees in the cold, San Fransisco Bay. She's disoriented and suffering from hypothermia. She's taken to the hospital, where doctors diagnose her with a form of amnesia brought on by a traumatic experience. Her fiance, from Seattle, has been looking for her since she disappeared a week earlier and determined that she is Lucie Walker, a successful business-owner from Seattle.

Love Water Memory by Jennie Shortridge is partly a mystery--who is Lucie Walker and what happened to bring about her memory loss? But the novel is primarily about the new, evolving relationship between Lucie and her fiance Grady. It's a sweet, tender story with plenty of frustrated passion. Can they love each other again and appreciate the changes in each other? Because Lucie is so vastly different from the person she had been. Can they use this as a new beginning or will it tear them apart?

Shortridge is able to create in her writing this tender passion between her characters. I felt emotionally invested in their relationship and the internal struggles they have within themselves. I was frustrated by their failure to communicate their true feelings effectively. I was impressed that Shortridge was able to invoke such strong feelings in this compelling novel.

Love Water Memory is definitely a page-turner. My husband was not thrilled that I wouldn't turn out the light the other night. I told him I'd just read one more chapter, but I really could not stop turning the pages. Summer is coming and Love Water Memory should definitely be on your to-read list.

The characters tend to swear when they are frustrated, angry, scared and overwhelmed--so a lot.
